The 21 Solutions team was tasked with performing the preliminary study with a view to the restoration of the Gramme building by architect Francis Metzger as part of the Charleroi District Créatif project.
Designed in 1907 by Brussels architects Albert and Alexis Dumont, this was the very first building of the Université du Travail in Charleroi, a school that revolutionised technical education in the early twentieth century. Moreover, its construction followed one of the most important architectural competitions of the time.
The building features a remarkable Flemish Neo-Renaissance grand entrance hall adorned with marble tiles, a sculpture by Constantin Meunier, torch-bearers by Jef Lambeaux and, originally, stained-glass windows on the theme of industry.
