21 Solutions has advised and supported STIB-MIVB and the municipality of Anderlecht by facilitating information provision and consultation on the Rue Wayez redevelopment project. Rue Wayez, which was for many years one of Anderlecht’s main shopping streets, has suffered from the invasion of road traffic and the development of shopping centres on the outskirts. Essential renovation work on the tram rails and sewers provided an opportunity to think about its redevelopment in an approach involving residents, users and retailers. 21 Solutions defined and implemented a participatory approach in support of a redevelopment plan to be drawn up by the agency Espaces Mobilités.

Working with the Maison de la Participation, the 21 Solutions team designed documents and facilitated sessions at which technical constraints and citizens’ contributions were presented, in order to develop an understanding of individual patterns of behaviour of people living in the Rue Wayez area: how they go for walks, do their shopping, pick up their children from school, use public transport or use the street at different times of day. This input will enable the Espaces-Mobilités office to design the street redevelopment project and prepare the preliminary draft plan.
