Since 2008, 21 Solutions has been supporting the Brussels Citizen-Minded Sustainable Districts Program, which has been included since 2016 in the ‘Inspiring Districts’ call for projects. Launched in 2008 by Brussels Environment, this scheme aims to promote eco-citizenship by seeking to unite around a structured project the various initiatives taken by different groups in a district (local residents, non-profit organisations, users, public- and private-sector bodies, etc.). The ambition is to create a resilient citizen-minded approach in response to environmental issues.
21 Solutions is responsible for the project’s general coordination and implementation, the monitoring of the Participatory Budget and activity facilitation and coaching for the districts concerned, in collaboration with the international non-profit organisation Periferia and non-profits Ecoconso, Espace Environnement and Réseau Transition. In its role as coach, our team gives the candidate districts guidance as they perform a diagnosis and draw up a roadmap. These documents are then presented to a panel of citizens which controls a fund for distribution to districts within the framework of a participatory budget. The districts then receive guidance in their project implementation and group dynamics, according to the objectives of sustainability, user-friendliness and long-term continuation of the projects.
